Zoom Live: Beginner Ballet Level 1

In this class, Finis Jhung provides inexperienced or out-of-shape adults with the ballet basics that make the difference: proper posture, how to turnout correctly, how to balance on one foot, and which muscles to use and when and how to use them. Regardless of a person’s anatomy, background, or aptitude, the Finis Jhung Ballet Technique makes it possible for all adult ballet beginners to master the basics of ballet technique so that they can stand and move with the balance, strength and grace which identify classical ballet dancing.
13 barre exercises. 1 center exercise. If you don’t have a barre, stand between the backs of 2 chairs, one for each hand, so your arms can reach sideways in second position. Try to improvise so you can do all the barre exercises with both arms reaching sideways.
The center exercise will be an adagio where you will be in one place, taking a step forward and then backward; then taking a step sideways to the right, then the left.
You will need space to reach your arms sideways. Ideally (you may have to rearrange your furniture) you have an open space approximately 5 feet by 5 feet so that you can move forward, backward, and sideways.
Students should have a form of a ballet barre to hold onto (e.g. back of chair, kitchen counter or portable barre) find sufficient space to perform barre exercises and a modified center that remains in place.
Ballet class attire or tight-fitting clothing is recommended in order for you to observe your body placement in the mirror.
Experiment with the placing of your viewing device so that Finis can see your entire body from head to toe with arms reaching out to the sides.
