Strengthen Your Knee
WHAT IS IT?
You will perform traditional classical ballet barre exercises that concentrate on movements of the free leg that we call “divided battements” — the upper leg is motionless while the lower leg bends and straightens from the knee. These exercises make different demands on your knees. Most of the exercises keep the supporting leg standing still while the free leg works. The balloné exercise bends and straightens both knees at the same time. With the rond de jambe en l’air, you will learn how your knee can function as a hinge, a movable joint that allows the toe of the working leg to describe an oval in the air. The frappé (as I teach it) works the knee muscles intensely as you slowly extend the working leg to full point and then retract it quickly. This class will greatly improve your dancing skills!
WHO IS IT FOR?
Adult ballet beginners who know how to get on their leg and are familiar with the Finis Jhung Ballet Technique either through his live studio classes, zoom classes, or his instructional videos. You should be capable of performing the exercises below and can fulfill these requirements: you have a portable barre or 2 chairs for support; sufficient space to take 2 or 3 steps sideways, forward, and backward; a that floor is smooth and flat so you can easily slide your foot. You will wear proper ballet attire and shoes, and you will set and TEST the positioning of your camera so that Finis can see your entire body from head to toe with both arms open in second position.
