Beginner Ballet Level 2 Mini-Intensive #5A

November 29 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EST

Sorry! This class is sold out.

We are proud to announce our fifth Mini-Intensive for Beginner Ballet Level 2 students: Turning Steps

TO APPLY

Please fill out the form below to apply for this Mini-Intensive. Finis will review your request and, if approved, send you a registration link.

Mini-Intensive Application

  • Select at least one.
  • IMPORTANT: I understand that this is a more intimate class where Finis gives more tailored feedback. As a result, I will be sure to have enough space to take large steps sideways, forward and on the diagonal. I also have adequate lighting to be clearly seen and will wear something that helps me be seen clearly in my space.

  • Required.

SUBJECT
Turning Steps

WHAT IS IT?
If you’ve never done a pirouette, or are having trouble turning, this is for you. Here you will learn the principles that underlie all turning movements. You will practice the assemblé soutenu; the pas de bourrée suivi en tournant (turning in place on the half-toe in the fifth position); pivoting quarter-turns en dedans (turning toward the supporting leg); pivoting quarter-turns en dehors (turning away from the supporting leg); and full turns on both feet (paddle turns) what I call “The Billy Elliot” spotting practice. Each exercise will first be shown by Finis, and then you will do it following a demonstrator. As you do it, Finis will watch you carefully, analyze your work, and then you will repeat it employing his corrections. To turn is to dance!

WHO IS IT FOR?
This Mini-Intensive class size is limited to only ten students so that Finis can coach and correct each of you. You should already be warmed up, either from the preceding class or on your own. You must have enough space so that Finis can see your entire body from head to toe with both arms extended. You must have enough clear space to move six feet in either direction. You should be dancing on a flat smooth floor and not on a rug or carpeting. You will need a barre or a chair for support when needed. Please wear proper ballet attire or tight-fitting clothes so that Finis can see how your body parts are placed.

WHAT WILL WE WORK ON?
1. At the barre: Assemblé soutenu en dedans (half-turn), pas de bourrée suivi en tournant
2. Off the barre: Assemblé soutenu en dedans (half-turn), pas de bourrée suivi en tournant, fondu, pas de bourrée dessous
3. Off the barre: Quarter-turn pivots en dedans, en dehors
4. Off the barre: Pivot and pose in effacé devant en dehors en carré (to each wall), tombé fondu back, pas de bourrée under
5. Off the barre: Your head turns your body
6. Off the barre: Paddle turns a la “Billy Elliot”
