@finis Yesterday I purchased my first streaming video – Stretch & Turn out. Wow! It is amazing! So many great ideas, and new ways to explain things. I love it! Can’t wait to watch more! Thank you!
In reply to: Judith posted an update in the group Center Floor Ballet Warm-up Discussion Group This class flows on from Ballet plus quite nicely. In fact, it would be easy to mix and match the exercises for a different combination. Because I have worked through this class already, I decided to go with the workout mode. The pace was faster than I had anticipated, so it kept me on my toes. Balance was once again an issue for me, so something to keep working on for sure. The running exercise in the beginning is the biggest challenge. Not so much stamina wise, it is just that I am not as compact as I used to be and it does not feel that comfortable. I was tempted to skip this part, however, I know it is better not to. The final exercise was also a challenge, however, as there is much to learn about pirouettes, I know I will improve. Something that I notice with all the videos is how well the dancers present themselves. Something to aspire toward in time. View
Hi @Finis, thank you. Although I do something in the field of dance on a daily basis I do not actively get up and dance every day. I am changing that though since this community began because I can write comments about the practise and that helps to bring everything together. Also, the way the streaming videos are arranged provides a logical…[Read more]
In reply to: Judith posted an update in the group Get On Your Leg & Dance! My first lessons in dance were about Scottish highland dancing, which requires loads of hopping on one leg, so I have no difficulty in switching weight onto the supporting leg. What I did not know until this video was all the other things that you can do to make that switch smoother and all the movements after that better. View
Thank you @Finis for asking. Firstly, what was a revelation to me was that concentrating on the supporting leg rather than the working leg was the way to keep everything together. I was used to thinking about what the working leg was doing and forgetting about the leg on which I was actually dancing. Secondly, really using the arms for balance was…[Read more]
In reply to: Lauren Cozza-Doody posted an update in the group Dance Teachers I have a 10 year old student that does phenomenal work during private lessons, but doesn\'t try at all in group classes and then totally falls apart on stage. I know she is very intelligent; it\'s frustrating to know what she is capable of but nobody else does. I want her to keep dancing, it\'s all so strange, I think it\'s 100% lacking social confidence... any advice? Or do I ride out the wave and hope she doesn\'t quit? Thank you Finis, for the community. ;) View
I’m sure @finis will have something further to say, but in addition to being a web guy, I’m also an actor and teacher. I would talk to the parent and see if she’s had bad experience performing in the past. Obviously, she views class as a performance for her peers and likely is distracted by fears of judgement or inadequacy.
Have you asked the…[Read more]
In reply to: plinka posted an update in the group Ideas for the Finis Jhung Community Hi, I think the videos should have a wider frame (or a brighter color). I mean, there are several video files next to each other and it\'s hard to figure out which one I\'m watching. I usually have to peer at them. Can you change it? Thanks. View
@finis and I discussed your note, and I have an idea about how to fix it. Give me a couple of days, but I’m on it!
Hey folks. We’ve been having a few technical difficulties (maybe some of you have gotten pages that say “Internal Error blah, blah, blah….”) I have found what I THINK was causing that problem. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if this comes up and include what you were doing that caused the problem. Hopefully I can get it sorted…[Read more]
